The good news: steering, pedals and car control tend to survive years of not driving. What fades is judgement: the part you don't notice until you're back in traffic. That's what a refresher rebuilds.
Following distance
A habit that quietly fades. We bring back the two-second rule until it runs on autopilot again, because space is what buys you time everywhere else.
Roundabouts & lane discipline
Dublin and Kildare have gained a lot of multi-lane roundabouts while you were away. Lane choice and signalling are one of the things returning drivers ask about most.
The car itself has changed
Electronic parking brakes, auto-hold, lane assist, emergency braking that works nothing like your old car's. If your last car was a 2008 diesel, the tech is half the lesson; see what driver aids do to skills.
Motorways at your pace
As a full licence holder you can use motorways. A refresher is the place to get comfortable with merging, lane discipline and exits, with an instructor beside you and dual controls under the dash.
Listening to the car
Experienced drivers steer, brake and change gear by feel and sound. That feedback loop is exactly what a few structured hours switch back on.

Then we go where your life happens: the M50 or N7, town parking, that one junction you hate. Real routes beat abstract practice, and you leave with the drives you'd been avoiding done once, with Kris beside you.
An honest read, not a pitch
At the end you'll hear exactly where you stand and whether another lesson is worth it. Coaching, not criticism: it's how the whole academy works.

How much is a refresher lesson, and how long is it?
Two hours, €100: that's €50 per hour. Two hours gives time to settle back in on quiet roads and still drive the routes you need; one hour wouldn't fit both.
Who teaches it?
Kris, the academy's owner: an RSA Approved Driving Instructor for both car (B) and bus/coach (D), and an approved Driver CPC trainer who trains and assesses professional drivers in one of Ireland's largest passenger transport operations. Meet Kris. Refreshers run one-to-one across South West Dublin and North Kildare.
How many lessons will I need?
It depends on how long you've been off the road and where you want to drive. You'll get an honest read at the end of the first lesson, never a sales pitch: we don't sell lessons people don't need.
Manual or automatic?
Kris teaches both, and lessons run in a dual-controlled school car as standard. If you'd rather build up in your own car, mention it when booking and Kris will tell you honestly whether that makes sense for where you're starting from.
My licence has expired — can I still book?
You need a current licence or learner permit to drive on the road, so renew through the NDLS first. If it's been expired a long time, check the NDLS renewal rules for your situation before booking, then come back to us for the driving part.
I've just moved to Ireland — is a refresher enough?
If your licence is from a country Ireland exchanges licences with, yes: a refresher is exactly how you get used to driving on the left, Irish roundabouts and Irish signs. If it's from a country Ireland doesn't exchange with, you're legally a learner here and the EDT route applies instead. Our foreign licence guide explains which is which.
Do I legally have to take lessons after a break?
No. There's no legal requirement for a full licence holder to take lessons, however long the break. A refresher just means your first drives back happen with an instructor beside you, instead of white-knuckling it alone.
