Smart Driving Academy didn't start as a business plan. It started with one instructor — me, Kris — and a belief that driver training in Ireland could be better than a race to the test. Since then, I've invited instructors to join me one at a time. Not through job ads — through friendship, respect, and one simple test of my own: would I trust this person to teach someone in my own family?

That's why we're built differently to a franchise. Every instructor here is independent. Nobody pays franchise fees, nobody works to commission targets, and nobody will ever sell you lessons you don't need. When your instructor tells you you're not ready for the test — or that you are — there's no sales pressure behind it. Just honest professional judgement, with their own name and reputation standing behind it.

What we share is bigger than a logo. We're colleagues and friends: we compare notes after difficult lessons, swap what works, challenge each other's methods and keep training ourselves. Book with any one of us and you get one instructor in the car — and five behind them.

For us this isn't a side business. Driver training is our profession — several of us also train professional bus and fleet drivers as part of our day-to-day work, and hold instructor qualifications for cars and buses alike. The standard we hold professionals to is the same one we bring to your very first EDT lesson.

The test is a milestone, not the destination. What we care about is the driver you are ten years from now.

That's the mission that connects us: raising the standard of driving in Ireland, one driver at a time — with lessons grounded in current road-safety evidence, not habit. It's why we research and publish our Driving Science guides, and it's why the people on this page do this work with genuine passion.
